Iman e Mufassal (6 pillars of Iman) in Arabic and English

Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim, Today’s topic of discussion is Iman e Mufassal (6 pillars of Iman) in Arabic and English.

Iman e Mufassal

امَنْتُ بِاللهِ وَمَلئِكَتِه وَكُتُبِه وَرَسُوْلِه وَالْيَوْمِ الْاخِرِ وَالْقَدْرِ خَيْرِه وَشَرِّه

Pronunciation: Amantu Billahi, Wa Malaikatihi, Wa Qutubihi, Wa Rusulihi, Wal Yaomil Akhiri, Wal Qadri Khairihi Wa Sharrihi.

Meaning: I believe in Allah, in His angels, in His books, in His messengers, in the Hereafter, in the pros and cons of Taqdeer.

6 Pillars of Iman

The fundamentals or pillars of faith or Iman are 6. Namely:

1. Allah Almighty

2. His Angels

3. His Books

4. His Messengers

5. Hereafter and

6. Taqdeer

In this context, Allah Ta’ala says,

“Indeed, good deeds are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, and all the prophets.” [Surah al-Baqarah, verse 177]

He also said,

“All believe in Allah, His angels, His Book, and His Prophets. They say, We make no distinction between His Messengers.” [Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse: 185]

He also said,

“We have created everything according to Taqdi.” [Surah Al-Qamar, Verse: 49]

What is the meaning of Iman (Faith) in Islam?

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Faith is that you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His Messengers and the Last Day (Akhirat). Have more faith in fate good and bad.” (Sahih Muslim)

1. Allah Almighty

Allah Almighty says about faith in Allah:

“And every one of the believers has faith in Allah.” (Surah Al-Baqarah: 258)

It is further said-

O believers! Put your full faith in Allah. (Surah An Nisa: 136)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah. The Prophet said:

I have been commanded to fight against people until they bear witness that ‘there is no god but Allah’. So whoever accepts that ‘there is no god but Allah’ has secured his life and wealth from me. However, it is different if there is a Shariah-compliant reason. And the accounting of his (deeds) is with Allah.” (Sahih al-Bukhari-1399 and Sahih Muslim-20)

2. Angels

Belief in Angels: Believing that there are many angels of Allah Ta’ala. He created them from light. By creation, they are loyal to Allah. They never disobey Allah’s commands, but obey them immediately. Day and night they recite the Tasbeeh (Holiness) of Allah, never tiring. No one knows their number except Allah Ta’ala. Allah has entrusted them with different kinds of (actions).

Allah says:

All believe in Allah, His angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (Surah Al Baqarah – Verse: 285)

In the famous hadith of Gabriel, the Messenger of God said:

Faith is belief in Allah and His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Day of Resurrection, and in the good and bad of destiny. (Bukhari-50, Muslim-10)

3. The heavenly books

The third branch of faith is believing in the books given by Allah. Allah says:

And all believers believe in Allah, the angels, the books, and the prophets. (Surah Al-Baqarah: Verse-285)

Hadith narrated by Umar Ibn Khattab RA – known as Jibraeel in the Hadith – where Jibraeel SA said in response to a question –

Faith is belief in Allah, His angels, His books, and His Messengers. (Bukhari-4777)

Along with believing in the books, special importance has been given to believing in the Qur’an. Refers to-

O believers! Believe in Allah and His Messenger and in the Book (Quran) which He revealed to His Messenger. As well as to the books that were revealed before. (Surah An-Nisa, Verse-136)

4. Messengers

It is one of the pillars of faith, without believing in it no one’s faith will be complete.

Belief in the Messengers is to firmly believe in the heart that Allah has sent many Messengers to the world. Those whom he chose to preach his message. They have done their due duty in delivering his message. No errors and no negligence. Those who follow them will be guided. And those who do not follow them will go astray. They advised their Ummah to be good. He established Hujjat (evidence of sides and opposites) on the tribe without changing, amplifying, or concealing any part of what he was sent with. We will believe in everyone whose name we know and whose name we do not know.

Allah says:

Say: We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us and in what has been revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and their progeny and in what was given to Moses, Jesus, and other prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between them. And we are His followers. (Surah Baqarah verse 136)

5. Akhirat

Belief in the hereafter is also a part of faith, Allah says:

Fight with those who do not believe in Allah and the Hereafter. (Surah At-Tawbah: Verse-29)

Hulaimi said, surely one day this world will end. Day by day the world is moving towards that day which will suddenly appear. There is no way to pass up that day. In Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Abu Hurairah, the Prophet said, ‘By him in whose hands is the life of Muhammad! Doomsday will surely take place. It will happen before the shopkeepers and buyers price the clothes and pay the price.

6. Taqdeer

Be it good or bad, Allah pre-ordained everything to believe in this word! Allah Almighty says.

Say, everything is from Allah.’ (Surah An-Nisa verse: 78) In Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, it is said in the hadith narrated by Abu Huraira RA, “The Prophet SAW said, once there was a dispute between Adam (AS) and Musa (AS). Moses said, O Adam! you are our Father who Deprived us and expelled us from Paradise. Adam said, you are Moses! Allah has honored you by talking to you. He gave the written book (Torah). Have you rebuked me for what Allah had ordained forty years before He created me? Adam Ah won the debate over Musa Ah. (The hadith is mentioned in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim in the chapter on Taqdee under the title ‘The Debate between Adam and Moses’)

The Messenger of God said:

Faith is belief in Allah and His angels, His books, His messengers, and the Day of Resurrection, and in the good and bad of destiny. (Bukhari-50, Muslim-10)
