Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim, Today’s topic of discussion is Sayyidul Istighfar Dua in Arabic and English with benefits.
Rasulullah (SAW) said, “Whoever recites Sayedul Istegfar with firm belief, recites it during the day and dies at night, or recites it during the night and dies during the day, he will enter Paradise.”
Sayyidul Istighfar in Arabic
اَللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّىْ لآ إِلهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِىْ وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوْذُبِكَ مِنْ شَرِّمَا صَنَعْتُ، أبُوْءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَىَّ وَأَبُوْءُ بِذَنْبِىْ فَاغْفِرْلِىْ، فَإِنَّهُ لاَيَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوْبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ
Sayyidul Istighfar English transliteration
Alla-humma anta rabbi la ila-ha illa anta khalaqtani, wa ana ‘abduka wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa wa’dika mastatwa’tu, a’uzubika min sharri ma chana’tu. Abuu laka bini’matika ‘alaiya wa abuu biyambi fagfirli fainnahu la yagfiruz junuba illa anta.
Sayyidul Istighfar English translation
O, Allah! You are my Lord. There is no god but You. you created me I am your slave I stand firm in my promises and promises to you as much as possible. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my deeds. I acknowledge Your grace upon me and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me because no one forgives sins except You.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ “ سَيِّدُ الاِسْتِغْفَارِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ. إِذَا قَالَ حِينَ يُمْسِي فَمَاتَ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ ـ أَوْ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ـ وَإِذَا قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ فَمَاتَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ ”. مِثْلَهُ.
Narrated by Shaddad Ibn Aws (RA):
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said Sayyidul Istighfar: “O Allah! You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me, and I am Your slave. And I stand firm on the vows and commitments I made with You as much as I can.” I am eternal. I acknowledge Your favors upon me and acknowledge the sins. So forgive me. For there is none to forgive but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil consequences of my sins.” Whoever recites this Dua in the evening, and dies on this night, will enter Paradise. Rabi said, or he said: He will be in Paradise. And whoever recites this dua in the morning, and dies on this day, will also be in paradise.

حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حُرَيْثٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، رضى الله عنه أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ لَهُ “ أَلاَ أَدُلُّكَ عَلَى سَيِّدِ الاِسْتِغْفَارِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ وَأَبُوءُ إِلَيْكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَىَّ وَأَعْتَرِفُ بِذُنُوبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي إِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ .
لاَ يَقُولُهَا أَحَدُكُمْ حِينَ يُمْسِي فَيَأْتِي عَلَيْهِ قَدَرٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ إِلاَّ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ وَلاَ يَقُولُهَا حِينَ يُصْبِحُ فَيَأْتِي عَلَيْهِ قَدَرٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُمْسِيَ إِلاَّ وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ ” . قَالَ وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ وَابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَابْنِ أَبْزَى وَبُرَيْدَةَ رضى الله عنهم. قَالَ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ . وَعَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ الزَّاهِدِ . وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ رضى الله عنه .
Narrated by Shaddad Ibn Aws (RA):
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Shall I not say to you Sayyidul Istighfar (the best dua of asking for forgiveness)? That is: “O Allah! You are my Lord, there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. As much as possible I will be firm in your promise and commitment. I seek refuge in You from the evil consequences of my activities. I acknowledge your favor towards me. And I also confess my sin.
So forgive my sins. For there is no one who forgives sins except You.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If one of you says these words in the evening and dies before dawn, Paradise is guaranteed for him. Likewise, if one of you says it in the early morning, then if he dies before the evening, Paradise is guaranteed for him too.

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ الْمُعَلِّمُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، عَنْ بُشَيْرِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ” إِنَّ سَيِّدَ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْعَبْدُ: اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي، وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، فَإِنْ قَالَهَا حِينَ يُصْبِحُ مُوقِنًا بِهَا، فَمَاتَ دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ، وَإِنْ قَالَهَا حِينَ يُمْسِي مُوقِنًا بِهَا، دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ «خَالَفَهُ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ»
Narrated by Shaddad Ibn Aws (RA):
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Sayyidul Istighfar [the best supplication for forgiveness] is that the servant will say: O Allah! You are my Lord! There is no god but You, You have created me, I am Your servant, and I stand on the promises and commitments made with You as much as I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil of what I have done, I confess my sins to you. And I accept your blessings. forgive me No one can forgive sins except You. If one recites this Dua in the morning with strong faith. Then he dies, but he will enter Paradise. And if one recites it in the evening with firm faith, he will enter Paradise.

وَعَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوسٍ رضي الله عنه عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، قَالَ: «سَيِّدُ الاِسْتِغْفَارِ أَنْ يَقُولَ العَبْدُ : اَللهم أَنْتَ رَبِّي لاَ إِلٰهَ إلاَّ أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ، وَأنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ، أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي، فَاغْفِرْ لِي، فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ . مَنْ قَالَهَا مِنَ النَّهَارِ مُوقِناً بِهَا، فَمَاتَ مِنْ يَوْمِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُمْسِي، فَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ، وَمَنْ قَالَهَا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، وَهُوَ مُوقِنٌ بِهَا، فَمَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُصْبِحَ، فَهُوَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الجَنَّةِ» . رواه البخاري
Narrated by Shaddad Ibn Aws (RA):
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Sayyid al-Istighfar [the best supplication for forgiveness] is for the servant to say,
‘Alla-humma anta rabbi la ila-ha illa anta khalaqtani, a ana abduka a ana ala ahdika a a’dika mastatwa’tu, aujubika min sharri ma swana’tu, abuu laka bini’matika alaiyya a abuu bijambi fagfirli fainahu la yagfiruz Junuba illa ant.’
Meaning – O Allah! You are my Lord. There is no true god but You. You have created me, I am your slave. I stand as strong as possible on your promise and commitment. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. And I acknowledge the wealth you have over me and my guilt. So forgive me, for no one can forgive sins except You.
Whoever recites this Dua with conviction during the day [morning] and then dies before evening on that day, will be among the people of Paradise. And whoever recites this dua at night [in the evening] with firm belief and then dies that night before dawn will be among Paradise’s people.
