Dua for the deceased (dead) person in Arabic & English in Islam
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim, Today’s topic of discussion is Dua for the deceased (dead) person in Arabic & English in Islam.
Umm Salama (RA) said, The Prophet (PBUH) came to Abu Salama, and while his eyes were open, he closed them. Then he said, When the soul is recited, the eyes follow it. Hearing this, some people from Abu Salama’s family shouted and cried. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Do not wish evil for your souls except good.” The angels say Amen along with what you say. Then the Prophet (PHUB) said:
Pronunciation: All-Hummaghfir Liawi Salamah, Warfa’ Darajtahu Fil Mahdiyin, Wakhlufhu Fi ‘Aqbibihi Fil G-Bireen, Wagfir Lana-Walahu Ya-Rabbal A’-Lamin, Wa Afsih Lahu Fi Kabrihi, Wanawir Lahu Fihi.
Meaning: O Allah! Forgive Abu Salama. Raise his status among those who are guided. Be of help to those he has left. O, Allah! Forgive him and us. Widen his grave. Light up the grave for him.
Muslim 2015, Mishkat 1619.
Dua for a deceased person
The dua for any dead person can be summarized as follows:
Pronunciation : All-Hummaghfir Lahu Warfa Darajatahu Fil Mahdiyyina Wafsah: Lahu Fi Kabrihi wa Wanawir Lahu Fih.
Meaning: O Allah! You forgive him. And give him high status among those who are guided. Widen his grave and provide light for him there.

Dua for the deceased in the Janazah prayer
Abu Huraira (R.A.) said that the Prophet (S.A.W.) used to say when he offered the funeral prayer.
Meaning: O Allah! Forgive us all, living and dead, present and absent, young and old, male and female. O, Allah! Keep those among us alive, keep them alive in Islam. And those whom you will grant death, grant them death with faith. O, Allah! Do not deprive us of his goodness and do not lead us astray after his death.
Mishkat 1675.
Awf Ibn Malek (RA) said, The Prophet (PBUH) once led a funeral prayer. I remember some parts of his prayers. he said,
Meaning: O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, give him full security, forgive him, entertain him with dignity, enlarge his abode. You wash him with water, ice, and dew, you cleanse him from sin as a white cloth is cleansed from dirt. Please give him a good house instead of a worldly house. Give him a better family than the family of this world. Give him a better wife than the wife of this world and you will admit him to Paradise. And save him from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of hell.
Muslim, Mishkat Ha/1655, Funeral chapter.
Dua to keep the dead person in the grave
Ibn Umar (RA) said, The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “When you put the dead body in the grave, say:
Bismillah-hi wa ala millati Rasulillah.
In the name of Allah and on the authority of His Messenger (PBUH).
Abu Dawood 3213, Bulugul Maram 575.
Sunnah places the deceased in the grave on the right hand. There is no evidence of burial with shouting and hands on the chest. And there is no prayer except Bismillah while giving soil.
Dua after burying the dead
Uthman (R.A.) said, When the Prophet (S.A.W.) used to bury the dead and retire, he would say, “Ask for forgiveness for your brother and seek for his stability in the grave (meaning that he may answer the angels’ questions). Now he is being asked’ (Abu Dawud, Mishkat.
Note that after the burial, it can be said,
Alla-hummagfir lahu wa sabbithu.
O, Allah! Forgive this dead man and keep him firm.
And funeral prayers can also be recited privately (Abu Dawud, Mishkat; Hisnul Muslim, Dua No. 164).
The Bid’ah of raising the hands together after burial and the common practice of offering soil is also absolutely Ya’if, which is abandoned.
Dua for visiting graves
Buraida (RA) said Rasulullah (SAW) used to teach them this supplication when they went out to visit graves.
Pronunciation: Assalamu Alaikum Ahlad Diari Minal Muminina Wal Muslimina Wa Inna InshaAllahu Bikum Lalahikuna – Nasalullah Lana Wa Lakumul Afiyyah.
Meaning: O grave dwellers, believing Muslims! Peace be upon you; And when Allah wills, we will certainly meet you; We ask Allah for peace for us and for you.
Sahih Muslim Hadith No. 2147, Abu Dawud Hadith No. 3237.
In another narration, the dua is also described as follows,
Pronouncement: Assala-mu ‘ala- ahlid dia-ri minal mu’minina wal Muslimina, wa yarhamulla-hul mustaqdimina minna- wal musta’khirina, wa inna-insha-all-hu bikum lala-hikoon.
Meaning: May peace be upon the inhabitants of the abode of the believing Muslim! And May Allah have mercy on those who left first and on those who will come later, inshallah we too will meet you soon.
Mishkat, Ha/1767.
It should be noted that the hadith is valid in the evidence of the popular prayer of grave pilgrimage. The prayer is as follows,
