Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (R.A.) said, “On the day of the Battle of Badr, I fought for a while and saw that the Prophet (SAW) was prostrate and only saying-

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّوْمُ

Pronunciation: Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum

Meaning: Oh Chiranjeevi! O Everlasting One

Not saying anything more.’ Then Ali (ra) left to fight again. came back again; Come and see – Nabi saw is in the same condition. He came this way several times and found himself in the same situation. Then Allah Taala gave victory to the Prophet (PBUH). (Imam Haysami, Majmawz Ghawaid, Hadith: 10/147; Imam Haysami (RA) said, the chain of the hadith is Hasan).

Allahumma Inni A’uzu Bika Min Azabil Qabri

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Birahmatika Astaghees

Anas bin Malik (RA) narrated that whenever a difficult task came before Rasulullah (SAW), he recited the following supplication. (Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3524)

يَا حَىُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ

Pronunciation : ya hayyu ya qayyum birahmatika astaghees.

Meaning: O Everlasting, O Everlasting! I seek help by your mercy.

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Birahmatika Astaghees dua

Narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Hibban and Hakim on the authority of Anas (RA). He was once sitting in the Majlis of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). A person prayed and after the prayer he made dua-

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ بِأَنَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدَ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لاَ شَرِيكَ لك الْمَنَّانُ بَدِيعَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ، يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ، يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ

Pronunciation: Allahumma inni as-aluka bi-anna lakal ha’mdu la-ila-ha illa-anta wah’daka la-sharika lakal manna-n, ya badia’s sama-wa-ti wal ardwi, ya jal jalali wal ikram. Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum.

Meaning: O Allah! I am praying to you. For You alone are worthy of praise. There is no god but You. You are Hannan and Mannan (Kind and Giver). You are the creator of the heavens and the earth. O possessor of excellence and mercy. O Eternal One; O ruler of the universe.

Hearing this dua, the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, “This person has made dua in the name of Allah Ta’ala through Azam.” By which dua is accepted and some supplication is granted.
