Dua before and after eating food and drinking milk
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim, today’s topic of discussion is Dua before and after eating food and drinking milk. Before eating or drinking any food or drink, say ‘Bismillah’. And say Alhamdulillah before or after eating or drinking. Sunnah is also to recite the following supplication while consuming milk or any food.
Dua of drinking milk
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ
Pronunciation: Allahumma bariklana fihi wa jidna minhu.
Meaning: O Allah! Bless us in it and increase it more.

Dua of eating food
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأَطْعِمْنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ
Pronunciation: Allahumma bariklana fihi wa at’ymna khairam minhu.
Meaning: O Allah! Bless us in it and provide us with better food.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنِي هَذَا وَرَزَقَنِيهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ حَوْلٍ مِنِّي وَلاَ قُوَّةٍ
Pronunciation: Alhamdu lilla-hillazi att amani ha-za wa rajaqanihi min gairi haolim minni wa la kuwwatin.
Meaning: All praise is due to Allah Ta’ala, who has fed me with it and provided me with it as sustenance, without my effort or strength to earn it.
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَطْعَمَ وَسَقَى وَسَوَّغَهُ وَجَعَلَ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا
Pronouncement: Alhamdu lilla-hillazi att ama wa saqa wa sawwagahu wa ja’ala lahu makhraja.
Meaning: All praise is due to Allah, Who fed, gave drink, made it easy for them to enter the stomach, and made it easy for them to come out.
Hadith related to the Dua of eating food and drinking milk
Narrated Ibn Abbas (RA):
He said Milk was brought for the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him). He drank it, and one of you should say while eating: ‘Allahumma bariklana fihi wa at’ymna khairam minhu’, meaning ‘O Allah! Bless us in it and give us food better than that. And while drinking milk, say: ‘Allahumma bariklana fihi wa jidna minhu’, which means ‘O Allah! Bless us in it and increase it even more, because milk alone serves as food and drink.

Quality of Hadith: Sahih Hadith
On the authority of Mu’adh Ibn Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), on the authority of his father:
He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: The person who, after eating, said, ‘Alhamdu lilla-hillazi att amani ha-za wa razaqanihi min gairi hawlim minni wa la quwwatin’ means ‘All praise is due to Allah who gave me this. fed me and provided for me, without my effort or strength to earn it; all his previous sins are forgiven.

Narrated Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (RA):
He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to communicate after eating or drinking: ‘Alhamdu lilla-hillazi ata ama wa saqa wa sawwagahu wa ja’ala lahu makhraza’ meaning ‘All praise is due to Allah who feeds, drinks, enters the stomach. He made it easy and arranged for them to come out.
